Submissions Open for Golden Orange 2021

The 58th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival will be hosted by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism and run from October 2-9, 2021. Submissions for the National Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film competitions have now opened on the Festival website.

In a written statement, the Mayor of AntalyaMuhittin Böcek, noted that the Festival program would include competitions in the National Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film categories as well as the Antalya Film Forum and International Feature Film Competition. He also pointed out that a total TL1.4 million of prize money would be awarded this year.

To be eligible for the National Competitions, films must have been completed after the August 14 2020 submission deadline for the 57th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. Additionally, entries must neither have been previewed or screened publicly in Turkey prior to the 58th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, nor have been presented at any other national festival. Submissions will be accepted online through the Festival website up until the deadline at 18.00 on Monday August 9, 2021.

Open-air screenings were introduced for the first time at last year’s edition of the Festival, a practice which will continue this year. However, a number of screenings and events will also be held in indoor settings, where all necessary Covid measures will be in place to keep audiences, guests and the Festival team safe.

Awards Buzz Begins

The Best Film selected from the National Feature Film Competition line-up stands to win a TL300 thousand cash prize as well as a Golden Orange statuette. Competition titles will also vie for the Dr. Avni Tolunay Special Jury Prize worth TL100 thousand. Separately, the Behlül Dal Best First Film Award was instituted as an incentive for follow-up films from first-time directors, and the winner will be awarded a cash prize of TL100 thousand. Films in the National Documentary Film Competition, a curation of the year’s latest documentaries, will collectively compete for TL60 thousand of prize money, while two films in the National Short Film Competition will be presented with cash prizes worth a total of TL30 thousand

Two years ago, the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival introduced the TL50 thousand Cahide Sonku Award to raise the profile and visibility of women working in the Turkish film industry. This year, the award will go once again to a female filmmaker or female team attached to one of the competition films either in front of, or behind the camera, whose work and female perspective are integral to the film.

Turning to the International Feature Film Competition, which brings together critically acclaimed and highly anticipated productions from the past year, the Best Film and Best Director will be rewarded with cash prizes of TL100 thousand and TL50 thousand respectively. Golden Orange statuettes will also be presented in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories.

This year will see the third edition of the Golden Orange Film School and the eighth edition of the Antalya Film Forum, the Festival’s industry platform. The Forum, which supports new work in Turkish cinema while at the same time opening avenues for young, independent filmmakers, will this year award TL390 thousand in prize money. More detailed announcements about both side-bar events will be made in the coming days.

The 58th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival is chaired by Mayor of Antalya, Muhittin Böcek, and executive directed by Cansel Tuncer, while Ahmet Boyacıoğlu takes on the role of Festival director and Başak Emre of artistic director.
