A Son

A first feature set in Tunisia’s turbulent recent history with Mehdi Barsaoui, the acclaimed Tunisian short film director, at the helm. Premiering at the Horizons section of the 2019 Venice Film Festival, A Son tells the story of a family’s struggle to save their 10-year-old son who is critically injured in the crossfire of an armed attack. During the course of the boy’s treatment, the family has to confront a dark secret buried in the past which then triggers a spiral of increasingly complex moral dilemmas. Najla Ben Abdallah, a rising star in Tunisian cinema, stars alongside veteran actor, Sami Bouajila, whose performance won him Best Actor Award at Venice’s Horizons.
