Lawrence Of Arabia

A masterpiece which won all the distinguished awards, including seven Oscars in 1962. David Lean's splendid biography of the enigmatic T.E. Lawrence paints a complex portrait of the desert-loving Englishman who united Arab tribes in battle against the Ottoman Turks in WWI on a sun-drenched 70mm canvas that often seems as large as the Arabian peninsula itself.

At the centre of Lean's visual symphony is Peter O'Toole's eccentric but magnificent portrayal of the lieutenant, who travels to meet with Prince Feisal as an observer and convinces him to join forces with his traditional tribal enemies, then leads the Arabs successfully in a guerrilla war. In time, however, Lawrence's legions dwindle, he begins to revel sadistically in violence, his grand attempt at overseeing the formation of a united Arab Council in Damascus collapses, and he returns to Britain exhausted.
