Coordinator Letter – National Short And Documentary Film

The early examples of short films and documentaries, which form the foundations of cinema history, have greatly influenced the development of cinema as an art form, especially as their artistic, cultural, and social impacts became recognized over time.

As with every form of art, short films and documentaries, as universal genres, serve as a step for filmmakers to share their stories with audiences and establish their own unique style and cinematic language. Sometimes created to explain, sometimes to commemorate, they emerge as an aesthetic form of expression, raising thought-provoking questions.

For short films and documentaries, national and international film festivals are just as important as they are for feature films, offering significant representation, prestige, and industry access for directors and producers.

The International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival supports the production of short films and documentaries, encouraging filmmakers to engage in artistic creation and aiming to increase the visibility of these films within both the national and international cinema industries. Every year, dozens of short films and documentaries are brought together with industry professionals and festival audiences through competition and special screening programs.

This year, with great care to uphold the long-standing tradition of our festival within a limited timeframe, we have curated an inspiring, thought-provoking, and contentful program. It features short films that convey unique, profound, and powerful stories within a few minutes, as well as documentaries that create awareness by reflecting on societal, cultural, political, environmental, or historical issues from different perspectives, acting as mirrors and memories of our era.

We are thrilled to present these stories, which offer new worlds to the audience, on the magic lantern of cinema, drawing strength from the unifying and transformative power of art.
