Turkey's Cinema Feast Starts By Said "Our Story Is Together"
The International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival brings the magic of cinema to Antalya for the 61st time. The festival, which says “Our Story is Together”, will reflect all the colors of cinema all around the city with different events for a week.
Organized by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, Turkey's most established cinema event; International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival is in front of movie lovers for the 61st time.
The festival, which will bring together the newest productions of Turkish and world cinema, the masters of the silver screen with movie lovers until October 12 and will transform the spirit of cinema into a feast with many side events, will greet the people of Antalya and all movie lovers with a traditional procession on October 5. Following the red carpet ceremony, the festival will start with the opening ceremony hosted by successful actress Sedef Avcı at the Glass Piramit and Serhat Kılıç will add color to the opening night with a show performance. While Honorary Awards will be presented to master artists Işıl Yücesoy, Şerif Sezer, Erdal Özyağcılar, Müjdat Gezen and Selçuk Yöntem at the night, young actors Farah Zeynep Abdullah and Aras Bulut İynemli will also receive Achievement Awards. The National Feature Jury President, director Ferzan Özpetek and National Jury Members will also be present at the ceremony.
“Our Story is Together”; all sides of cinema, in all activities of Golden Orange
Until October 12, moviegoers will have the privilege of watching the newest and most successful films from Turkey and the world, many of them for the first time in Turkey, and will have the opportunity to come together with their favorite artists in Q&A’s and masterclasses after the screenings. While talents who are devoted to cinema will meet with opportunities to bring their projects to life at the Antalya Film Forum (AFF), they will be able to exchange ideas with veteran names at the Cinema Workshop, which aims to find solutions to the problems of the sector with all stakeholders. While the light of cinema shines in every district of Antalya thanks to the Cinema Truck, the festival will also bring this year’s slogan “Our Story is Together” to life.
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and Golden Orange Film Festival President Muhittin Böcek touched on this issue at the press conference with the words, “We know that the stories we grow up, live and embrace are together. We know that what we watch on the screen are the lives, feelings and thoughts of each of us. We believe that we should all work together so that more stories can meet more audiences.”
12 films in the Golden Orange excitement
The National Feature Competition, always the most eagerly awaited section of the festival, features 12 films this year. Soner Sert will appear before the jury headed by Ferzan Özpetek with “Aci Kahve”, Necmi Sancak with “Ayşe”, Önder Şengül with “Knowledge of the Whale”, Ümit Ünal with “Making a Home”, Ayçıl Yeltan with “Seedling”, Kenan Mansur Doğru and Umut Osman Demirkol with “Galata”, Belkıs Bayrak with “Gülizar”, Erhan Tuncer with “Trees I Remember”, Nadim Güç with “Mukadderat”, Selim Evci with “Time That Will Be Blown Away”, Ümran Safter with “I’m Where I Left You” and Neco Çelik with “My Dear Murderer Berlin”. The films will also be evaluated by the Film Directors Association (Film-Yön) jury, consisting of screenwriter-director Ömer Uğur, director Eylem Kaftan and director Biket İlhan, and as a result of this evaluation, one film will win the Film-Yön Best Film Award.
Within the scope of the National Feature Competition, awards in the categories of Best Film, Dr. Avni Tolunay Special Jury Award, Behlül Dal Best First Film Award, Best Director, Cahide Sonku Award, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Music, Best Editing, Best Art Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor will be presented at the closing ceremony. The total prize money in the National Feature Competition this year is 3 million 600 thousand TL.
Stars of world festivals at Golden Orange for the first time in Turkey
The 61st International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival is proud to present a very special selection to its followers this year as well. The festival's international screening program is full of stars. The newest productions that made their world premieres at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Toronto and Tribeca and returned with awards from these festivals will meet Turkish audiences for the first time in Antalya. Among these are; The latest film by legendary director Francis Ford Coppola, Megalopolis, which had its world premiere in Cannes and won the Honorary Award at the 44th Antalya International Golden Orange Film Festival, “Armand” (Director: Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel) which won the Golden Camera Award at Cannes, “Samia” (Director: Yasemin Şamdereli) which won the Special Jury Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival, “Agarrame Fuerte/Don’t Leave Me” (Director: Ana Guevera & Leticia Jorge) which also returned from Tribeca with the Nora Ephron award, “Pigen Med Nålen/Şişli Kız” (Director: Magnus Von Horn) which was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes, “Basileia/Hükümdarlık” (Director: Isabella Torre) which had its world premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival as the closing film, and “Basileia/Hükümdarlık” (Director: Festival, starring Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes, “The Return” (Director: Uberto Pasolini) will be among the films that will be awarded. A total of 12 films will be competing for the Golden Orange statuette in the International Feature Competition this year in the categories of Best Film and Best Director. Following the evaluation of the International Jury, chaired by director and cinematographer Mahmoud Kalari, film critic Selin Gürel, director of photography Mehmet Aksın, screenwriter Ludovica Rampoldi and director Ayşe Polat, the Best Film will be awarded 300 thousand TL, while the Best Director will be awarded 150 thousand TL.

The documentaries to be evaluated by journalist and documentarian Ahmet Yeşiltepe, director Jale İncekol and director, producer and academic Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurdan Tümbek Tekeoğlu; “Golden Hands” (Director: Sevgi Hirschhaeuser), “Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu: “Those Who Unravel the Secret of the Earth” (Director: Ali Kemal Pasiner), “In Search of an Orchestra” (Director: Musa Ak & Hasan Basri Özdemir), “Fatoş” (Director: İlcan Edgar Özuluca), “The Clock Without a Dial” (Director: Fatma Karakuş Kaçmaz), “Journey to Cilicia: In Search of Fejes” (Director: Zehra Yiğit & Perihan Taş Öz), “The Right of Water” (Director: Onur Mehame) and “Türkan: The Story of a Woman Scientist” (Director: Gülay Ayyıldız Yiğitcan). The winner of the National Documentary Competition will be supported with a Golden Orange statuette as well as 150 thousand TL, while the winner of the Special Jury Award will be supported with a cash prize of 100 thousand TL.
This year, 10 short films will be presented to the jury consisting of director Erdem Tepegöz, screenwriter, actor and director Derya Durmaz and actress Pınar Göktaş. The films that will compete for the 100 thousand TL Best Short Film and 50 thousand TL Special Jury Prize are as follows: “Crying is Free, Laughing is Forbidden” (Director: Oğuzhan Akalın), “Such Things Don’t Happen in the World” (Director: Ali Emre Ceylan), “Dreams, Hopes and Circling Dolphins” (Director: Adil Burak Aydın), “Wolves” (Director: Ecre Begüm Bayrak), “Perfect” (Director: Ece Dizdar), “Almost Definitely Wrong” (Director: Cansu Baydar), “Guide” (Director: Mert Erez), “One Realizes That You’re in a Dream” (Director: Baturay Tunçat), “Like a Fly” (Director: Hazal Beril Çam) and “Soup for Chicken Broth” (Director: Deniz Büyükkırlı).
A first at the Golden Orange: Students are competing!
12 films selected from among the works applied by all cinema departments in Turkey are participating in the Cinema Schools Student Films, which was launched for the first time this year in order to make student films shot at film schools visible and to encourage film students. The student films will be evaluated by a jury consisting of director Handan İpekçi, General President of the Society of Cinema and Television Work Owners (SETEM) Mehmet Güleryüz and producer Aycan Çetin.
The excitement of new projects; AFF
The Antalya Film Forum (AFF), initiated by the International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, is evaluating 19 projects this year in order to support their meeting with the audience. A total of 500 thousand TL support will be provided to the winners selected from among the projects to be comprehensively discussed between October 7-9 on the Feature Fiction Pitching, Feature Fiction Work-in Progress, Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Screenplay Support Fund Pitching, Series/Short Series Pitching and Documentary Work-in Progress platforms. This year, the AFF Feature Film ‘Pitching’ Platform Jury consists of director Yunus Ozan Korkut and producers Mariette Rissenbeek and Sena Argün. The Feature Film Work-in-Progress Platform Jury includes art director Natali Yeres, director of photography Andreas Sinanos and producer Daniel Vadocky. The Documentary Film Work-in-Progress Platform Jury consists of producer Sevinç Baloğlu, BLU TV Documentary Department Manager and producer Dilan Karadağ and documentary producer-director Gökhan Tarkan Karaman, while the Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Screenplay Support Fund Pitching Platform Jury includes director Hüseyin Karabey, screenwriter, writer Feride Çiçekoğlu and director Melisa Üneri. The names in the Forum’s Series/Short Series Pitching Platform Jury are; producer Arya Su Altıoklar, GAIN TV Dramas and Production Coordinator Gizem Elgün and producer Giacomo Durzi.
The problems of our cinema from A to Z at the Cinema Workshop
The 61st International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival brings together professional organizations, associations, unions and cinema academics in order to contribute to the solution of current problems of cinema. Participants who will meet at the Cinema Workshop within the scope of the festival will address the problems faced by cinema in Turkey under different headings. In the workshop to be held on October 10-12, basic headings regarding the creation, production and distribution processes of cinema films will be discussed in a total of nine sessions. The working groups, which will consist of academics and professionals, as well as representatives of associations, foundations, professional associations, unions and relevant state institutions, will sign final declarations after the sessions. The topics in the workshop are as follows: Copyrights, copying fees, conditions on film and series sets, state support, overcoming production problems, academic and vocational education problems, film festivals, movie theaters, viewing culture in cinema, fundamental problems in the production and screening process of documentary cinema, difficulties in film distribution, classification and age decisions, cultural heritage and archiving in cinema.As part of the workshop, on October 11, directors Tolga Karaçelik and Ümit Ünal will participate in the panel titled "Independent Cinema in Turkey in the Context of Narrative and Discourse Structure" to be held under the moderation of workshop coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Perihan Taş Öz.

The 61st International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival program, which will bring together over 90 films in 11 different sections this year, can be accessed at www.antalyaff.com. The films to be presented under the titles of National Short Film Competition, National Short Film Special Screening, National Documentary Film Competition and National Documentary Special Screening within the scope of the festival will be available for free. The fee for screenings in other sections has been determined as 5 TL for students and 10 TL for adults so that everyone can experience cinema.
The screenings of the 61st International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival will be held at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) Aspendos and Perge halls, Paribu Cineverse Migros AVM Konyaaltı 7th and 8th halls, Cinetime (2nd Hall) ÖzdilekPark Antalya Kepez and AKM Amphitheatre.
