The Antalya International Golden Orange Film Festival, which will take place from October 5-12 this year, is preparing to bring together important names from the world of cinema in Antalya. The jury president of the festival’s eagerly awaited International Feature Competition will be the legendary name of Iranian cinema, cinematographer and director Mahmoud Kalari.

Born in Tehran in 1951, Mahmoud Kalari reinforced his interest in cinema with photography at a young age. Kalari, who opened his first photography exhibition in Tehran in 1977, received professional photography training in New York in 1980 and was then hired by the SYGMA Photo News Agency. His photographs were featured in the world's most prestigious publications.

Kalari, who began his film career with the 1988 film "Frosty Roads," worked with the biggest names in Iranian cinema for nearly 40 years. Known especially for his collaborations with Abbas Kiarostami, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Jafar Panahi and Asghar Farhadi, Kalari received worldwide acclaim as a cinematographer with Farhadi's 2011 film "A Separation," which won an Oscar for "Best Foreign Film."

Kalari’s Award-Winning Career and Directorial Experience

In addition to his achievements in cinematography, Mahmoud Kalari has also produced remarkable works as a director. He won the Best Film Award at the Mardel Plata International Film Festival in Argentina with his 1998 film "Cloud and the Rising Sun." Kalari, who has been crowned with many international awards and honors throughout his film career, attracted attention again with his latest directorial work, the 2023 film "Summertime."
