A panel on independent cinema will be held at the Cinema Workshop within the scope of the 61st Antalya International Golden Orange Film Festival with the participation of directors Tolga Karaçelik and Ümit Ünal.

Within the scope of the 61st Antalya International Golden Orange Film Festival, a panel titled "Independent Cinema in Turkey in the Context of Narrative and Discourse Structure" will be held on October 11th at the "Cinema Workshop", which will discuss cinema from A to Z with all parties in the sector. The guests of the panel, moderated by the workshop coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Perihan Taş Öz, will be two valuable names of our cinema; directors Tolga Karaçelik and Ümit Ünal.

One of the cornerstones of Turkish cinema, Ümit Ünal, began his career as a screenwriter and presented our cinema with a legend: “Teyzem” (My Aunt), directed by Halit Refiğ in 1986. He had his signature as a screenwriter in many films written by master directors. Kartal Tibet’s “Milyarder” (1986), Atıf Yılmaz’s “Hayallerim, Aşkım ve Sen” (1987) and “Arkadaşım Şeytan” (1988), Tunç Başaran’s “Piano Piano Bacaksız” (1989), Sinan Çetin’s “Berlin in Berlin” (1992), Şerif Gören’s “Amerikan” (1993) are some of these. Ünal, who took the director’s seat in 2001 with “9”, became one of the five directors of “Anlat İstanbul” in 2004. His 2007 film “Ara” was followed by “Gölgesizler” (The Shadowless) a year later. Ünal, who shot “Pomegranate” after “Kaptan Feza” (2009) and “Ses” (2010), won the Jury Special Award at the 48th Antalya International Film Festival with this film. His 2017 film “Sofra Sırları” won the Kemal Sunal Audience Award at the Malatya Film Festival, while his 2019 film “Aşk, Büyü vs” (Love, Magic vs), which he wrote and directed, won the Dr. Avni Tolunay Jury Special Award, the Cinema Writers Association (SİYAD) Award and the Best Actress Award at the 56th Antalya International Golden Orange Film Festival. The film, which also won the Best Screenplay and Best Film awards at the Istanbul Film Festival, was also chosen as the best of SİYAD that year. The shooting of the director’s latest film, “Evcilik” (Evcilik), was also completed this year.

Tolga Karaçelik’s 2010 film “Toll Booth Officer” attracted attention with its unique style, and the film won the Best First Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematographer awards at the 47th Antalya International Golden Orange Film Festival. The director, who proved his competence with “Ivy” in 2013, returned with four awards from the 52nd Antalya International Golden Orange Film Festival, including Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Film. His 2018 film “Butterflies”, like its predecessors, was also appreciated and won many awards at both Turkish and international festivals, while the director most recently sat in the director’s chair for “Yakamoz S-245,” a post-apocalyptic drama adaptation for Netflix.
