In the second film of the “Commitment Trilogy”, Semih Kaplanoğlu tells the story of Hasan, who makes a living from his father’s orchard and tomato field. As we get to know Hasan and his wife, Filiz, we see that they only act in accordance with their own goals and do not think much about the effects of their behavior on other people. When they get the good news they’ve been waiting for years and prepare to go to Mecca for Hajj, Hasan begins to experience a scrutiny with his past. He confronts the contradictions between his actions and the values on which he has built his life. Kaplanoğlu depicts Hasan, whose soul has become barren over the years, despite living in the peaceful beauty of a geography where nature is fertile; with a simple, sensitive and effective cinema.
