Launched by the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival six years ago, the Antalya Film Forum has transformed Antalya into the leading hub of the Turkish national film industry through the support it provides for young, independent filmmakers. And last night, the winners of this sixth edition were announced at an Awards Ceremony held at Antalya’s Hotel Su. Taking place from October 28-30 2019 as a side-bar event of the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival with Olena Yershova Yıldız at the helm, the Antalya Film Forum this year supported 16 projects with total prize money of TL 530 thousand.
In all, 29 projects were represented at the Antalya Film Forum, which brought together more than 200 national and international film professionals in Antalya. The projects competed in the Feature Film Pitching, Fiction Works in Progress, Documentary Work in Progress and Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund categories.
Two awards apiece to Summer of 95 and The Cemil Show
Ten projects competed in the Feature Film Pitching category, which was overseen by a jury comprising Kirsten Niehuus, Mustafa Kara, Michèle Halberstadt, Nicolai Korsgaard and Mehmet Altıoklar. The jury gave Antalya Film Forum Awards worth a total of TL 90 thousand to threeprojects. İnan Temelkuran’s Summer of 95 (95 Yazı), Pınar Yorgancıoğlu’s Who Whistle After Dark (Karanlıkta Islık Çalanlar) and Ferit Karol’s Penny Bank (Kumbara) each won TL 30 thousand in prize money, while Summer of 95 also picked up the Cannes Film Festival Producers’ Network Accreditation Award. Mehmet Emin Timur’s Cemal took the Color Up Award.
TL 80 thousand to The List of Those Who Love Me
The Fiction Works in Progress category supports projects which are about to complete principal photography or are in post-production. This year, seven projects competed. The jury, made up of Frédéric Boyer, Remi Burah, İlksen Başarır, Michal Myslinksi and Thorsten Ritter, gave the TL 80 thousandAntalya Film Forum Award to Emre Erdoğdu’s The List of Those Who Love Me (Beni Sevenler Listesi). Nisan Dağ’s project, When I Am Dying (Bir Nefes Daha), won the TL 40 thousand Antalya Film Forum Award, while Ali Kemal Çınar’s Before the Night (Beriya Şevê) picked up the Highly Commended Film Award. Separately, Barış Şarhan’s The Cemil Show (Çemil Show) took both the Creative Production Color Editing and Mojo FX Visual Effects Awards.
TL 90 thousand in support to documentary filmmaking
The line-up of seven projects in the Antalya Film Forum’s Documentary Work in Progress category was considered by a jury comprising Paolo Bertolin, Emmanuel Chicon and Eytan İpeker. The three Antalya Film Forum Awards, adding up to a total TL 90 thousand, were won by İlham Bakır’s Mom, You Trespassed (Anne, Sınırı Geçtin), Yasemin Akıncı’s Ertil, Masters of Complications (Ertil, Komplikasyonlar Mütehassısı) and Sidar İnan Erçelik’s Wind Horse (Rüzgar Tayı). Additionally, Berna Gençalp’s project, Who Is Mihri? (Kim Mihri?), received the Postbıyık Sound and Color Editing Award.
TL 80 thousand in awards from TRT
The Turkish Broadcasting Corporation (TRT) has maintained its support of independent cinema this year with two TRT Awards collectively worth TL 80 thousand. Presented by Faruk Güven, TRT Director of Co-productions and Overseas Productions, and Muhammed Sabit Yakar, TRT Director of Program Acquisitions, the TL 50 thousandFiction Works in ProgressTRT Award went to Selman Nacar’s Between Two Dawns (İki Şafak Arasında) and the TL 30 thousand Documentary Work in Progress TRT Award to Selin Şenköken’s Ali Arif Ersen: Mr Wink.
Two awards to Affection of the Heart
The Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund was inaugurated in memory of the veteran actor, Sümer Tilmaç, who died three years ago, to incentivize filmmaking in Antalya. This year, there were five projects in the running. Burak Göral, Işıl Özgentürk and Ömür Atay made up the jury, which awarded the TL 150 thousand prize to Affection of the Heart (Gönül), a project to be directed by Soner Caner. Affection of the Heart was also given additional support in the form of the Fono Film and TAFF Pictures Post Production Award.
Closing and Awards Ceremony on November 1
Hosted by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and organized by ANSET, the 56th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival draws to a close on 1 November with the Closing and Awards Ceremony. This will take place on Friday evening at the Antalya Indoor Sports Complex.
