
Antalya Film Forum Presents Awards!
The awards have been announced for the Antalya Film Forum, the co-production market and project development arm of the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, the 59th edition of which is currently being hosted by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The winners were revealed at an Awards Ceremony presented by Damla Sönmez.
Co-directed by Armağan Lale and Pınar Evrenosoğlu, the Antalya Film Forum began on October 2. This year, 15 projects received support in five different categories. As well as cash prizes worth a total TL 610 thousand, the honors also took the form of high-value in-kind support, including post-production awards.
In all, there were 27 projects competing at the Antalya Film Forum in the Pitching for Feature Films in Development Platform, Features Work-in-Progress Platform, Documentaries Work-in-Progress Platform, Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund Pitching Platform and Series / Short Series Pitching Platform categories.
TL 40 thousand Apiece to “The Ballad of the Skeleton” and “The Moth”!
The nine projects competing in the Pitching for Feature Films in Development Platform were judged by jury members Antonio Saura, Selin Vatansever Tezcan and Teresa Hoefert de Turégano, who awarded two projects the Pitching for Feature Films in Development Platform Awards, collectively worth TL 80 thousand. Cash prizes of TL 40 thousand each went to Murat Uğurlu’s “The Ballad of the Skeleton” produced by Büke Akşehirli, and to “The Moth”, directed by Aslı Akdağ with Bilal Bağcı producing. Additionally, “Knight Rider 3: Blue Ocean”, a project directed by Ziya Demirel with Anna Maria Aslanoğlu producing, won the Film Standartları Post Production Award, while Tunç Şahin’s “8th Floor”, produced by Aslı Filiz and Ersan Çongar, picked up the Filmarka Equipment Support Award.
“Dormitory” and “New Dawn Fades” Win Features Work-in-Progress!
Five projects were shortlisted for the Features Work-in-Progress Platform, which supports projects that are either about to finish shooting or are in post-production. Anna Hoffmann, Dilek Aydın and Nathalie Jeung, who made up the jury, gave the Features Work-in-Progress Platform Award, worth TL 80 thousand, to Nehir Tuna’s “Dormitory”, a project produced by Tanay Abbasoğlu and Dorothe Beinemeir, and the TL 40 thousand Features Work-in-Progress Platform Special Jury Prize to Gürcan Keltek’s “New Dawn Fades” produced by Arda Çiltepe. The Başka Sinema Distribution and Promotion Award went to Selman Nacar’s “Hesitation Wound” produced by Burak Çevik and Diloy Gülün.
TL 80 thousand Award from TRT!
The state broadcaster TRT (Turkish Radio and Television) continued its support for independent cinema this year with the TRT Features Work-in-Progress Platform Award, a cash prize of TL 80 thousand. Announced by Faruk Güven, the Head of Cinema at TRT, the award was won by “Confrontation”, a project directed and produced by Filiz Kuka with Seçkin Akyıldız also producing.
TL 80 thousand in Support to Documentary Cinema
Five projects competed in the Antalya Film Forum’s Documentaries Work-in-Progress Platform and were judged by jury members Aurélien Marsais, Charlotte Reekers and Zeynep Güzel. The two winners of the Documentaries Work-in-Progress Platform Awards, which share the TL 80 thousand cash prize equally between them, were Etna Özbek’s “A Simple Place” produced by Burak Karamete, and “Elsewhere” directed and produced by Melis Birder with Nesra Gürbüz also producing. “A Simple Place” also came away with the Başka Sinema Distribution Award. Produced by Merve Tohum and Alican Acar, Canberk Emre İpek’s “61 Minutes in Trapped Zone” was honored with the Documentary Association of Europe (DAE) Encouragement Award, while “Hold Still”, directed by Berke Baş with Enis Köstepen producing, picked up the Film Standartları Color Grading Award. “Elsewhere” was also rewarded with a second trophy, the Postbıyık Sound Post Production Award.
Two Series / Short Series Pitching Platform Award Winners!
The five projects selected for the Series / Short Series Pitching Platform were judged by a jury comprising Julia Schulte, Leticia Godinho and Yamaç Okur. “Half-Life”, a project co-created by Tilbe Cana İnan and Kubilay Kara with Yelin McKay producing, was awarded top honors in the form of the TL 100 thousand Netflix Grow Creative Project Development Support and free accreditation to the Netflix Turkey Project Development Workshop. The Color Up Color Grading Award went to “Zek the Flatmate”, co-created by Erinç Durlanık and Yusuf Onur Aydın, directed by Erinç Durlanık and produced by Ceren Özkanlı Samlı and Elif Nur Kayalar.
Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund Award Goes to Rabid!
Launched in memory of the gifted Turkish actor, Sümer Tilmaç, to encourage filmmaking in Antalya, the Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund Pitching Platform saw three projects competing this year. Jury members Deniz Akçay, Uygar Şirin and Zeynep Koray awarded the Sümer Tilmaç Antalya Film Support Fund and Fono Film Post Production Awards to “Rabid”, a project written and directed by Abdurrahman Öner with Arzu Şenses Öner producing.
