Golden Orange Award Winners Unveiled!

Hosted by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, the 59thAntalya Golden Orange Film Festival wound up last night with an Awards Ceremony at the Antalya Indoor Sports Stadium

The winner of the Golden Orange for Best Film was “Black Night”, the latest feature from Özcan Alper. Meanwhile, EminAlper’s “Burning Days” came away from the evening with nine trophies including Best Director.

Best Film Goes to “Black Night”
This year, 10 films were selected for the National Feature Film Competition. Presiding over the jury was director-producer-screenwriter Yeşim Ustaoğlu, who was joined by actor-director Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan, director-screenwriter Azra Deniz Okyay, musician Harun Tekin, actress Nurgül Yeşilçay and cinematographer Uğur İçbak. The jury chose to award Best Film to “Black Night”, a drama thriller directed by ÖzcanAlper and produced by Soner AlperNecati AkpınarErsinÇelik and Bülent Makar.

As well as honors for Best Film“Black Night” earned Murat Uyurkulak and Özcan Alper the award for Best Screenplay.

“Mirror Mirror Wins Dr. Avni Tolunay Special Jury Award
The Dr. Avni Tolunay Special Jury Award went to Mirror Mirror, the second feature from Belmin Söylemez which was produced by Haşmet TopaloğluLaçin Ceylan also picked up the Golden Orange for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Mirror Mirror.

Behlül Dal Best First Film Award Is Given to “Snow and the Bear
Directed by Selcen Ergun with Nefes Polat producing, Snow and the Bear took the Behlül Dal Best First Film Award, while also winning Merve Dizdar Best Actress for her starring performance.

“Burning Days” Scoops Nine Awards
Emin
 Alper was honored with the Golden Orange for Best Director for his drama, “Burning Days”. The film also garnered Selahattin Paşalı, one of the co-stars, Best Actor, an award he shared with Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu for his performance in “RSVP (Please Respond)”.

At the same time, Burning Days earned Christos Karamanis a nod for Best Cinematographer and Stefan Willthe Best Music Award, while Erol Babaoğlu picked up Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film.

Özcan Vardar and Eytan İpeker won accolades for Best Editing with “Burning Days”, while the Cahide SonkuAward, a TL 50 thousand cash prize given in memory of trailblazing female director Cahide Sonku to raise the visibility of women working in the Turkish film industry, went to ÇiğdemMater, an associate producer on “Burning Days”.

Emin Alper also took away the Turkish Film Directors’ Association (FİLM-YÖN) Best Director Award for “Burning Days”. The award was given this year in memory of veteran director Erden Kıral by a jury made up of Fevzi TunaGörkem Yeltan and İsmail Güneş.

A jury comprised of film critics Murat ErşahinOlkan Özyurtand Uğur Vardan dedicated this year’s Turkish Film Critics’ Association (SİYAD) Best Film Award to the memory of fellow film critic Murat Özer. The award was another win forEmin Alper’s “Burning Days”.

Elsewhere, Meral Efe Yurtseven and Yunus Emre Yurtsevenwere recognized with the Golden Orange for Best Art Directorfor their work on Kaan Müjdeci’“Iguana Tokyo”.

“Who iMihri Named Best Documentary
The 10 titles competing in the National Documentary Film Competition were judged by a jury made up of Ceylan ÖzgünÖzçelikElif Ergezen and Hilmi Etikan, who gave the Best Documentary Film Award to Berna Gençalp’s “Who iMihri.

The Special Jury Award was presented to “Duet”, a documentary co-directed by Ekin İlbağ and İdil Akkuş.

“You All & I Alone Picks up Best Short Film
This year’s National Short Film Competition saw a line-up of 12 films competing. Ezgi MolaMelikşah Altuntaş and NazlıElif Durlu made up the jury, who awarded the Best Short Filmto “You All & I Alone”, a drama co-directed by Barış Kefeliand Nükhet Taner.

The Special Jury Award went to Özgürcan Uzunyaşa’s “Hell Is Empty, All the Devils Are Here”.

“The Visitor Comes out Top in International Competition
The 10-title line-up in the International Feature Film Competition was considered by a jury composed of actress Anamaria Marinca, actor Jean-Marc Barr, film curator and critic Nikolaj Nikitin, Executive Director of Arte France Cinéma Olivier Père and director-screenwriter ValdimarJóhannsson, who awarded the nod for Best Film to Martín Boulocq’s “The Visitor”.

This year, the jury also presented a Special Jury Award, which went to Michal Vinik’s “Valeria Is Getting Married”.

Best Director: Damian Kocur
The jury honored first-timer Damian Kocur with the Best Director Award for his drama, “Bread and Salt”.

The Best Actress Award went to Marina Foïs for her performance in “The Beasts”, while Pejman Jamshidi picked up Best Actor with Dustland.

The 59th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival was chaired by the Mayor of Antalya, Muhittin Böcek, and executive directed by Cansel Tuncer, while Ahmet Boyacıoğlu took on the role of Festival director and Başak Emre of artistic director. The Antalya Film Forum was co-directed by ArmağanLale and Pınar Evrenosoğlu.
